Seventh Annual Ariel Avrech ZT’L Memorial Lecture

The Seventh Annual Ariel Avrech ZT’L Yahrtzeit Lecture
will take place Sunday June 13, 2010, at 10 AM at the Young Israel of Century City, followed by a brunch.

Young Israel of Century City
9317 West Pico Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90035

We are pleased to announce that we have engaged Dennis Prager, author, columnist and radio host—internationally celebrated for his wit and wisdom—as our speaker.

The title of Dennis Prager’s lecture is: “Happiness is a Mitzvah, Not an Emotion.”

Dennis is widely sought after by television shows for his opinions. He’s appeared on Larry King Live, Hardball, Hannity’s America, CBS Evening News, The Today Show and many others.

Dennis is the author of several best sellers including the seminal work on anti-Semitism, Why the Jews, co-written with Joseph Telushkin. Happiness Is A Serious Problem, Think A Second Time, and The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism, also co-written with Joseph Telushkin.

More important to us is a personal connection. Ariel was an enthusiastic fan of Dennis’ radio show. During our son’s long illness, when he was confined at home and in the hospital, Ariel listened to Dennis on a regular basis and commented: “There’s a lot of Torah in what Dennis says.”

We look forward to seeing all our friends and relatives at the lecture.

There is no better way of honoring Ariel’s memory than by participating in this lecture series.

May Ariel’s neshama have an aliyah.

The lecture and brunch are courtesy of the Avrech Family and Friends.

Comment Rules

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

That’s a GREAT picture of you trying to catch your son as he tested his powers to fly.
What part of Krypton does your family hail from?

Would it all be possible to webcast the Memorial Lecture or to post a video of it somewhere?
    Thanks,

Wish I could be there in person. But I will be there in spirit, and on the ‘net. Thank you for posting the talks; I find them informative and extremely interesting.

I look forward to the tape and my thoughts will be with you and your family that day.
The lecture series is such a great way to memorialize your son. Your previous speakers have been outstanding and I am sure Dennis will continue that tradition. Your children are really fortunate to have parents like Karen and yourself and there is no doubt Ariel knew the same thing.
When the Obama bullet train from St. Louis to LA is built I will definitely be there (especially since Obama has promised everything will not cost us anything).

We’re delighted that Dennis will be our speaker this year. Karen and I went to Yeshiva Flatbush with Dennis. I still remember he was the tallest kid in school.
Sorry you can’t attend this year, but we greatly look forward to seeing you when you do arrive in LA.

To all those who think “talk radio” is some monolithic everything-is-the-same entity – listen to Dennis Prager for a couple of days.
His social commentary is very insightful – and really gets you thinking.
If I were a bit closer to Los Angeles I would make it a point to being there.
BTW Dennis loves a good cigar and I am told if you jhave some nice ones…

What a coup for you to have reserved Dennis for the yahrzeit lecture this year…a wonderful gift to Ariel’s memory and a wonderful gift for the people who will be able to attend the lecture and listen to Dennis’s thoughts on happiness = mitzvah.
I’m sorry I cannot attend, but G-d willing, we’ll see you a month or so later.
