The United States is in a difficult position. We understand that intervention in the Arab Muslim world is a thankless task that inevitably leads to further hatred of America and fixes absolutely nothing.
Nothing can be fixed in the Arab Muslim world because the countries there have no sense of personal responsibility. The sectarian hatred, feuds, and endless carnage of these dysfunctional states are foundational pillars of Islamic culture. No amount of Western meddling or so-called free elections can fix these countries.
We cannot change their history, for the better, because we believe that history moves forward. Islam’s version of history moves backward, to the 7th century. These two world-views can never be reconciled.
And yet, poison gas is a threat to an already fragile world order.
If the United States lets Assad and his clan of thugs get away with gassing his own people, then you can be sure that Assad’s patrons in Iran, North Korea, and Russia will note America’s weakness and use the most horrific weapons of mass destruction they possess.
Israel is on the front lines. Sealed rooms are being prepared. Gas masks are being distributed. Jewish children are going through poison-gas attack drills.
Jews know about poison gas. We have more experience with this horrendous weapon than anyone else on the face of the earth.
President Obama called the use of poison gas a red line.
Personally, I think he had no idea what he was saying. He’s still a community agitator who gets off on the sound of his own voice. Like most Chicago politicians, Obama can get tough and ruthless when it comes to slinging mud at the opposition during election campaigns. But in the blood-drenched world of the Middle East, where the strong eat the weak, Obama is a guppy. He displayed his awesome guppiness with that absurd speech in Cairo, where he reserved the front row for the Muslim Brotherhood, the same IslamoNazi terrorists who assassinated Anwar Sadat.
It’s as if a U.S. president paid homage to John Wilkes Booth.
America is now reaping what Obama sowed.
Bret Stephens, probably the clearest thinker in America about the Middle East, recommends targeting Assad and his family. Seraphic Secret concurs.
The consequences of using WMDs should be up close, personal, and deadly. That is the only language tyrants understand. All other interventions will blow up in our faces in ways we can hardly imagine.
Meanwhile, the IDF, with its splendid Unit 8200, will be able to provide the U.S. military with the best, most accurate intelligence on Assad’s whereabouts.
