The opening credits to the Ben Casey TV series (1961-1966) were the only opening credits that my friends and I noticed and talked about. We were tweener Yeshiva students, enthusiastically devouring the fruits of popular culture even as were were steeped in Torah. We didn’t analyze our response to the Ben Casey credits. Our reaction was visceral. But the lifecycle so elegantly laid out on a classroom chalk board carried a powerful message that was simple but not simplistic. We understood that man, woman, birth, death, infinity, reflected the truth of the world.
The Ben Casey credits would never make it to network or cable TV now. It would be labeled hate speech.
Indeed, we have come to a point in American culture where the Democrat party self-righteously propagandizes against normative behavior in favor of tragic sexual deviancies.
