I was scared of Yossi Klein Halevi.
This was back in high school when Yossi and I were students — sorta — at Brooklyn Talmudic Academy. Sorta, because Yossi and I were two off the most indifferent students in that yeshiva’s history.
When I was scheduled to be in class I was, more often than not, sitting in a movie theater getting the education I really wanted. When Yossi was cutting class it was because he was organizing a rally in support of Soviet Jews, or meeting clandestinely with Rabbi Meir Kahane and his Jewish Defense League (JDL).
It was rumored that JDL guys were purchasing arms and explosives.
They said the JDL was going to blow something up.
Eventually, they did.
