“You can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs.”
So said Stalin about his genocidal purges.
Obama and the Democrats are whipping up an omelette. We the American people — and the free enterprise system — are the broken eggs, the broken lives. At the moment, there are several million broken lives as the unreasonable Obamacare mandates force insurance companies to cancel individual and family policies.
The numbers are staggering. In California, a one-party state — essentially a Democrat thugocracy — over 900,000 Californians are losing their insurance.
Even CBS News, a reliably liberal outlet, reports that:
in Michigan, 140,000; Florida, 300,000; and in New Jersey, 800,000. And those numbers are certain to go even higher. Some companies who tell CBS News they’ve sent letters won’t say how many.
Industry experts like Larry Levitt, of the Kaiser Family Foundation, say the insurance companies have no choice. “What we’re seeing now is reality coming into play,” he said.
Obamacare forces them to drop many of their plans that don’t meet the law’s 10 minimum standards, including maternity care, emergency visits, mental health treatment and even pediatric dental care.
This is just the beginning of the Democrat-ObamaCare purges.
Millions more will lose the insurance they voluntarily purchased. Millions will have their lives turned upside down by this massive Soviet-style social engineering project. Imagine the panic millions of hard-working middle-class Americans — not the millionaires and billionaires Obama demonized — feel as they see their medical safety net ripped to shreds by the despotic and deceptive law that was conceived and brought to birth in bribery, trickery, and a universe of lies. Such are the fruits of government-induced market distortions.
Imagine being the parent of a child who has cancer, and now your insurance is cancelled because Obama and the Democrats have decided that the insurance you count on is not good enough… because the ruling elites know better.
But of course, the ruling elites in Congress have changed the rules at the last minute to exempt their staff from going on ObamaCare.
This is the definition of tyranny: refusing to live by the very laws you have passed. This is how the elites of the Soviet Union ruled and how the Chinese communists continue to rule.
Of all the disgusting and outrageous lies, excuses and justifications for ObamaCare we have heard over the past few weeks (and there have been too many to count), Seraphic Secret would like to highlight three comments — Democrat talking points — that have particular resonance:
1. “It’s the law of the land.”
So were the racist Democrat Jim Crow laws. And so was Prohibition, social-engineering legislation authored and imposed by a powerful coalition of liberal-progressive groups. Not, as commonly believed, by prim librarians and conservatives.
2. “We have to see how this is going to play out. Let’s come back in a year and see how it looks.”
Many Democrat apologists have made this facile statement. Obamacare is a byzantine law that was cobbled together by persons unknown. Seraphic Secret guarantees that not one of the Democrats who voted for ObamaCare read the 2,700 page bill. And even if someone did read it, there’s no way they understood it.
The consequences, both intended and unintended, of such a bill are impossible to imagine. This is because a national economy is a complex organism made up of millions upon millions of individual decisions that reverberate throughout every corner of the American and the global economies.
Since common sense tells us that a government takeover of one-sixth of the American economy is doomed to failure, we do not have to wait a year to see how things shake out. It is a national disaster now, and it will be a much bigger disaster in a year. This wait-and-see tactic the ruling elites use is best summed up as — yup — hope and change. But hope is not a policy. It is a utopian dream that is bound to become hell. “Change” is another meaningless utopian bumper sticker that does not declare its true intent. “Change” is code for the devolution of free enterprise into unworkable and unsustainable socialism.
3. “Things are a bit rough now, but we’re on the right path.”
Last night on Hannity, a sad and stunned panelist displayed an insurance cancellation letter he had just received. In response, a Democrat cold-bloodedly explained that while this was unfortunate, still “we are on the right path.” In short, the shining path of socialism. In this case, the single-payer system that has been ObamaCare’s true goal from the very beginning.
Here we return to Stalin’s omelette. Over and over, Democrats calmly and cruelly explain that only five percent of Americans will be booted off their insurance plans. And those insurance plans were substandard anyway.
First of all, five percent translates into roughly 16 million Americans. Each person whose insurance is terminated because Obama does not like his or her choice is a story of fear and panic and possible financial ruin. Further, does anyone even believe the Democrat apologists’ quote of five percent? That number will grow and grow as ObamaCare tightens its death grip.
The “only five percent” line of reasoning tells us a great deal about the utopian vision of Democrats. The individual does not count. Democrats claim to see the larger picture. But they see only a collective, a manageable herd. And once again, they know better. Forget that millions of Americans voluntarily entered into contracts they deemed right for themselves and their families. This counts for nothing to the Democrat political class. They are experts. They attended Ivy League schools. This makes the professional political class — overeducated, inbred elitists — better qualified to make decisions for us, the American people, that are truly about matters of life and death.
The core of American values is liberty, not government.
In synagogue the other day, a friend asked me what we could do to reverse this slide into government tyranny.
“We must repeal this odious law,” I said. “We must not agree to any fixes. The Democrats own this immoral legislation. Completely. And it is exploding the very fabric of our society, just as we predicted.
“We have to win elections,” I said. “It’s that simple, that complicated.”
