Every week on Monday morning the Watcher’s Council and their invited special guests weigh in with short takes on a major issue of the day.
This week’s question: Do you consider illegal migration to America a problem, and if so, what would you do about the estimated 11 million illegal aliens already here?
Seraphic Secret was invited to participate in this forum. Here’s our response:
Without territorial integrity, a nation has no claim to nationhood.
There is no law that guarantees a state’s continued existence. In fact, world history is littered with fallen nations and dead languages. Not many Etruscan speakers out there. The Roman empire committed cultural suicide through a combination of negative birth rate — kids are a major buzz-kill when there’s an orgy to attend — debt, inflation, civic and government corruption, broken borders through which barbarians penetrated, and most important: a loss of belief in the purpose of their society.
The left encourages debt, inflation, and codifies civic and government corruption through lawless executive orders such as The Dream Act—notice they are no longer illegal immigrants, they are dreamers.
The left does not give birth to enough children to add new voters to the Democrat rolls and perpetuate their ideology. Thus, they recruit new leftists by enabling and encouraging illegal immigration. The left rejects American borders in favor of a utopian borderless world. This is the mission and strategy of the left, to impose a statist-globalism on an America whose exceptionalism they not only reject but despise.
The left claims that the 11 million illegal immigrants — I have no idea if this number is accurate and neither does anyone else — must be treated fairly and humanely. How can anyone argue with that?
But here’s my question: What about the 11 million — just making up a number here — law abiding folks who have filled out mountains of paperwork and now patiently stand on line, for years and years, in order to immigrate legally to America? Is it fair to them that America gives lawless immigrants, non-citizens — who include Islamist terrorists, gang bangers and narcotics criminals — preferential treatment and the privileges of citizenship?
If you are standing in line for a movie do you just smile with Zen serenity when someone jumps ahead of you because, well, they got tired of waiting in the back of the line?
Solution: 1) Strict border enforcement and 2) Send all illegals immigrants — whoops, I mean dreamers — to blue states and let the oh-so-tolerant liberal-progressives deal with the consequences of their radical policies.

In Australia we’re having the illegal immigrant debate, though you folks would laugh at the numbers. Being an island nation, the thousands that get here come on leaking, rotting fishing boats from Indonesia. No Indonesians, the illegals are from Iraq and the like.
I’d like stand on the beach and give anyone prepared to risk that voyage a passport and a cricket bat. In an ideal world, anyway. In the world I live in, a nation should give permission to those who’d like to live here, just as any of us would give permission to visitors to our homes.
The Howard govt (1996-2007) had a policy that restricted illegals, simply by making it tough for them. The Rudd/Gillard govt reversed that for being too nasty. The numbers leapt up tenfold. The deaths by drowning even more so.
Net results of the kinder, gentler policy on illegal immigrants: some 1400 drowned; our inadequate navy stretched past the limit in patrolling and intercepting; receiving facilities collapsing from overuse; and my favourite, a request that we should put them up in our homes as there’s nowhere else for them.
Gee, that laundry beneath the house is rather spacious…

The pro-amnesty crowd can never answer the question – do we let everyone from every country that wants to come here in or only those countries with which we share a border?
And then ask them what the immigration laws are in Mexico where legal aliens can’t sneeze without government permission.
And the pro-amnesty crowd always deny anything like the dream act would be a magnet for more illegal immigrants. Talk about willful ignorance.

It could be worse. It could be 11 million Islamic Brotherhood members. ^_^;;;
ProphetJoe: Don’t give them any ideas.
I submit that, for once, this is Bush’s fault. Republicans refusing the seal the border, which would not have been that controversial at the time, has made the amnesty issue nearly impossible for Republicans to address because their base is fed up. So the Democrats are looking for the credit for a policy that’s going to happen either way. Throwing out 11 million people who have lived here a large percentage of their lives is not going to happen, it’s just a matter of who gets the credit and future political allies.

The left beat Bush up, but he was not a conservative. Too bad.

Very interesting topic, Robert, although not as fun as your granddaughters, movies, or even shoes.
I completely agree that illegal immigration is not fair to those trying to get in legally, but that apparently doesn’t bother The Left. What surprises me is that they don’t apply the “Diversity First” concept to immigration. You would think that, based upon the number of Asian and Mexican immigrants that we have, The Left would want to cut down on those immigrants and promote the immigration of Africans, South Americans, and Pacific Islanders, etc. Why haven’t they put quotas into place? Oh, that’s right, this kind of thinking only applied to college admissions.
