Conservatives believe that Democrats are delusional utopians.
Democrats believe that conservatives are evil.
My wife, Karen, and I were raised as lever-pulling New York Democrats. Why were we Democrats for so many years? Well, because our parents were Democrats. Why were our parents Democrats? Because, they told us, Democrats were for the little guy and Republicans were for the wealthy.
Believe it or not, that was the whole ideology.
Dumb. I know. But there you are.
I started doubting the Democrat party during the Vietnam War, when Palestinian Jew-haters leeched onto the anti-war fervor and agitated for the genocide of the Jewish people. The New Left enthusiastically embraced these creatures. But there was nothing new about the New Left. They were classic hard-line Marxist-Leninists. The only difference was that they wore blue jeans instead of waistcoats.
Once we had the responsibilities of forging careers — I as a Hollywood screenwriter and Karen as a psychologist — and of raising children, we viewed the world with more mature eyes. We understood that utopian schemes always lead to hell. We also understood that the actions of a big government have enormous consequences that rarely benefit society. We saw that big government’s main aim was to create a dependent, loyal base of voters by distributing benefits — benefits that never lead to prosperity. Give the suckers just enough to keep them enslaved to one party.
Karen and I believed that the liberals/progressives/leftists/Democrats were well-intentioned children.
With the election of Barack Obama, this generous view of the Democrat party is no longer possible.
The left has surrendered to all the authoritarian impulses that big government advocacy implies.
ObamaCare is the most visible of the left’s disastrous programs. America is being turned inside out and upside down by the Byzantine legislation that is, day by day, destroying the greatest health-care system the world has ever known.
If anything proves that the left is a willfully malevolent force in America, just look at the Democrat spin on the latest CBO report, which states that ObamaCare will be responsible for the loss of 2.5 million jobs.
There was a time when Democrats and Republicans agreed that working for a living was good and desirable.
The Democrats, desperate to shore up the ObamaCare debacle, are telling the American people that losing jobs in the millions — and it will be many more than the CBO projects — is a good thing.
This spin is evil. There is no other way to put it. It is George Orwell’s 1984 Newspeak made institutional and viral.
Look — if you pay people not to work, they will not work.
Question: But how do you pay them to sit around and, as Democrat talking points assert, cook, make art, and spend time with family?
Answer: You take the money from those of us who work for a living while we also cook, make art, and spend time with family.
I don’t care how the White House and the Praetorian media spin the horrifying CBO numbers. Common sense tells those still capable of rational thinking that permanent job loss hurts people — not just financially, but also in the degradation of the individual’s character and the destruction of the family.
Massive unemployment is bad for society. Less prosperity means more poverty. Detroit, a petri dish of big government programs, has been under Democrat rule for fifty years. Evidently, the necropolis of Detroit, where mad dogs compete with people for space. is the utopian Democrat model of how America should function.
It is worth nothing that Sir Thomas More, the author of “Utopia,” burned the heretics who refused the siren call of his utopia.
Democrats are burning down America.
