Ask a military man to define a defensive war and the answer will be, “Defeat.”
And so it is with Israel’s feeble attempts at hasbarah, propaganda.
In truth, the Hebrew word hasbarah more closely translates as “clarification.”
And therein lies one of the problems.
Israel and Jews are engaged in a futile task: rebutting the big lies that are cleverly scripted by an enemy intent on Israel’s destruction.
This is a posture doomed to failure.
Israel is always on the defensive against an aggressive body of lies that come from multiple fronts —terror, legal, political, diplomatic, social—from a formidable and deep pocketed enemy, the Arab Muslim world and the Western quislings who revel in delegitimizing and demonizing the Jewish State.
We must shift gears and engage the enemy—and that includes the odious J Street—in an ideological war.
Bill Warner identifies the core of Israel’s fumbling hasbarah: the suicidal political correctness that refuses to deal with the malignant Jew-hatred that is at the heart of Islam.
Why don’t Jews and Israel want to deal with propaganda? Simple. It would mean talking about Islam. Jews and Israel must face the facts that the Koran and the Sunna (the actions and words of Mohammed) are filled with invectives against the Jews. At first the words were complimentary, but when the Jews of Medina rejected Mohammed as a prophet they were all enslaved, exiled, murdered and robbed — all acts of jihad. These were not historical acts, but perfect examples of Islamic action towards Jews — models prescribed for Muslims to follow up to the present time. To illustrate the severity of this predicament, statistically speaking, in the Koran of Medina 10.6% of the text is devoted to Jew hatred, whereas, only 6.8% of Mein Kampf is devoted to Jew hatred.

Meanwhile, here’s Suicide Killers, a documentary by Pierre Rehov that demonstrates that the war against Israel/Judaism is Islamic and the end game is to annihilate Israel and every Jew on the face of the earth.

The link to the C S Lewis excerpt seems to have been eaten by a spam filter, but it can be found on the left sidebar of my blog under the title “repent now”…about halfway down the “selected posts” list.

Jake…see this (excerpted) essay by C S Lewis. He was talking about Christians (at least norminal Christians), but I think the same factors are operative.

What I don’t get is what seems like a uniquely Jewish propensity to support our enemies. I think we may have a genetic predisposition to thinking that it’s noble not to want to protect our own.
When I see groups like J Street and people like Richard Goldstone, I am still outraged but no longer surprised by them. I know we often compare them to the Judenrat and the Kapos during the Holocaust, but I think those reprehensible people were at least trying to save themselves at the expense of their fellow Jews. They are not to be pitied, but I can comprehend their evil motivation.
So, what exactly are people at groups like J Street and guys like Goldstone trying to save? What is their motivation? I am not being facetious when I ask this question. Are they at gunpoint or something? I actually think this is something for the shrinks to study about Jews. But since most of the best shrinks are also Jews, they may not be able to get a fair scientific answer.

I don’t get these Islamofascists. On the one hand, they deny the Holocaust. On the other, they bless the dictator and murderer and say that he didn’t finish the job. Has anyone ever told them that they can’t have it both ways?

A minor quibble: This military man would substitute “Eternal Conflict” for “Defeat” in the first line of today’s post.
Clausewitz and Sun Tzu point out that the defense is actually the STRONGEST form of warfare. You get to prepare your positions, take advantage of
interior lines, and in general make yourself, ideally, invulnerable.
What you don’t get in defense is victory. The enemy keeps the initiative, and you get not defeat, but eternal conflict.
My possibly faulty memory remembers Sun Tzu: “In successful defense lies invincibility, in successful attack lies victory.”
I think Israel’s history since 1945 demonstrates this point from both sides, establishing the country in the face of a tired, halfhearted British defense, then defending brilliantly against the assembled hordes of the caliphate. Now Israel is fatigued. But they haven’t surrendered–a country bent on national suicide wouldn’t have elected Netanyahu.
But quibbles aside, informative as usual!
Best,
Virgil
