My father, Rabbi Chaplain Abraham Avrech passed away on March 15, 2014. This is the first Veteran’s Day without my father’s physical presence in this world.
He is gone, but like all veteran’s certainly not forgotten.
Take a moment to ponder the enormous sacrifices made by our nation’s heroes and their families.
Millions and millions of people all over the world are forever in their debt.
Keep in mind that the U.S.military has freed more people on this earth from tyranny and evil than any other force. Certainly, American servicemen have done more for the cause of freedom and democracy than any so-called peace movement.
Whenever I see the brain-dead bumper sticker, “War is not the Answer,” I cringe, for war is frequently the only answer, the only moral response to evil.
Because if the forces of good do not defeat evil, evil prevails.

G-d bless my father and all our veterans, living and dead.
G-d bless the United States of America.
Mr. Avrech, I think you know my feelings. RIP Colonel Avrech and thank you for your service to our country. respectfully, Alemaster
Thanks much… again.
Where did that icon come from? I never ordered it.
Dear Robert:
May your father rest in peace and may you and your family continue to receive comfort from G-d.
I’ve heard that the custom of putting stones on Jewish graves goes back to when the Jews were wandering in the desert. They piled stones on their graves to prevent the jackals from digging them up.
Your father was a fine example of a man in many regards, Robert. You speak lovingly of him as a husband, father and a family man. He was obviously a spiritual man with a deep sense of faith and a commitment to the G-d and His Laws, and he was an accomplished soldier who served our nation through 3 wars and peace time.
What a blessing he was to you, your family and the entire nation. May he rest in peace.
(By the way, do you still have his prayer book from the service? What a cherished treasure to share with your descendants!)
Thanks much for your kind words. And yes, That prayer book is now mine.
