The very name of this once great city conjures images of a postmodern necropolis, a blasted landscape where feral dogs outnumber tax paying citizens.
Of course, Detroit was once a prosperous city on the move.
But then came July 23, 1967.
The Detroit race riots.
After the National Guard restored order:
More than 7,000 people were arrested during the four days of rioting. A total of 43 were killed. Some 1,700 stores were looted and nearly 1,400 buildings burned, causing $50 million in property damage. Some 5,000 people were left homeless.
Detroit never recovered. The city hurtled into ghastly Mad Max territory. And of course, the decline of the American auto industry followed.
Ferguson is a tiny city. It’s tax base is tiny and shrinking. In fact, the city makes most of its revenue by having their police issue traffic tickets.
Scores of businesses have been burned and looted. Many of these businesses will never reopen. The economic base of Ferguson is taking a mortal hit from which it will never recover.
Race hustlers Sharpton, and Jackson have parachuted into Ferguson in order to burnish their racist credentials. Scores of FBI agents have been dispatched by Attorney General Eric Holder.
The FBI agents will play their assigned roles, and then quickly depart.
Journalists will move on to the next story.
Al and Jesse are already looking for their next hunting grounds.
Obama will make grand promises, i.e. lies.
Time will pass.
The Michael Brown t-shirts will fade. So will memories.
But, of course, Ferguson will still be there — in far worse condition than the pre-riot days.
Business will remain boarded up. And no sane businessman will set up shop in Ferguson. The tax base will flee. Fatherless black kids — the true cause of poverty, violence, drugs — will shuffle around with pants below their hips blaming the white man for their self-inflicted wounds.
And then the feral dogs will arrive to claim their turf.
