Yamas (Hebrew: יחידת המסתערבים, Yehidat HaMista’arvim) is an undercover special operations unit attached to the Israeli Border Police (Magav). YAMAS is one of the most elite counter-terror units in the world. The primary work of Yamas is intelligence gathering and surveillance in order to target and eliminate mortal threats. The host of the show, Chris Ryan, a former SAS soldier, does a nice job.

They are the sharp end of the stick fighting in the epicenter of terrorism….
Having just finished reading Shirer again, no one should begrudge any Jew or a Jewish state any means to defend itself. These guys have enough threats to deal with every day that only the most pacifistic sheep would complain. I shudder to to think what would happen if they had to rely on the typical TSA agent at any U.S. airport.
Come to think of it, I do shudder at the thought of the typical TSA agent at any U.S. airport. For a president that often stood up to do the right thing, giving in to pressure from Democrats to establish the TSA was one of Bush’s biggest failures.
Can the U.S. contract out our border security to YAMAS? Wouldn’t it be great to see some punk drug lord in Mexico find themselves dealing with guys that can take on Arab terrorists? Nothing will be done on immigration unless Americans are convinced the border is reasonably secure and these guys are the best. I know, I know! It could never happen but a guy can dream, can’t he?
Thanks for these videos Robert. Another bit of information on how Israel has managed to survive despite being surrounded by people that would be happy to see the country leveled to the ground.
Chris Ryan?
What a name for an Israeli commando!
Soccer Dad:
The host of the show about YAMAS is named Chris Ryan and he was in the SAS.
SoccerDad, the SAS is a Special Forces unit in the British Army and the acronym stands for Special Air Service. It wasn’t “officially” created until 1950, but it’s roots are from the early 1940’s and World War II operations.
The U.S. sent (at least) one officer, Charles Beckwith, to an exchange program with the Brits and he came back a lobbied for the creation of a similar group here. That was the beginning of DELTA Force in the US Army. Several other nations — Australia, France, Rhodesia, and New Zealand — also patterned their special ops after the SAS. In Israel, the Sayeret Matkel, was also patterned after the SAS and shares the same motto “Who Dares Wins” with the SAS. The SAS was relatively unknown (outside of the military) until the Iranian Embassy Crisis in London in 1980. You can see a little more about it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_p4DmuGyehc&feature=related
AliasJoe – I read some years ago Beckwith’s book – and it was interesting. Beckwith I believe was in charge of the ill-fated rescue attempt in Iran – (approved by Carter or course) – and it was that genesis that led to the Delta Force – modeled on the SAS.
I remember at the time the Israelis commenting on the botched attempt saying that you never implement a plan like that without a backup plan.
(and if you saw the recent movie Act of Valor – staring real SEALs on a fictional mission (but I’m told a composite of actual missions) – they actually had a tertiary fall back position.
One other thing Beckwith said of the SAS – they were the opposite of the typical “spit and polish” – worked in small units – they stopped the communists in Malaysia in the jungle in the 50s
